Are you lonesome tonight? If it's July 11-12, gyrate your way over to the ninth annual Michigan Elvisfest at Shady Riverside Park in Ypsilanti's historic Depot Town.

Don't be cruel. We're not! The festival includes dozens of musical performances, a vendor area and events for the King's youngest fans, like Little Elvis Kid Karaoke. Organizers say it's one of the largest Elvis concerts in North America.

So you're saying 'Viva Ypsilanti'? You can bet your blue suede shoes. Among the Elvis impersonators scheduled to perform are three Michiganders: Chris Ayotte of Canton, Chris Solano of Ann Arbor and Matt King of Leslie, who also does a mean Roy Orbison. Other tribute performers include Orbison, the Beatles, Buddy Holly and Tom Jones. On a more serious musical note, a candlelight vigil is scheduled for Saturday night to commemorate the 31st anniversary of Elvis' death.

I can't help falling in love with this event. Great, but here's some more good news -- Elvisfest benefits Riverside and Frog Island parks and Ypsilanti Meals on Wheels.

Now that I'm all shook up, how can I find out more? If you want to volunteer at the festival, download an application form on the Michigan Elvisfest Web site or call 734-480-3974, ext. 2. To buy tickets, call 734-483-4444 or 734-544-3800 or go to On the site, you can also find driving directions and local accommodations. Alas, there is no Heartbreak Hotel in the vicinity.
